ABOUT THE EVENT /
New Zealand has the highest suicide rates in the OECD. In 2018, 137 young people took their own lives with thousands more attempting to do same. Many young kiwis do not know where to turn to for help and sadly, the stigma attached to mental health means that a disproportionate number continue to suffer in silence.
With the support of our guest chefs and our friends at the ‘I Am Hope’ organisation, this event aims to shine a light on suicide awareness and raise funds to help our youth access the help they need. 'I Am Hope' is a charity fronted by Mike King, which reaches out to young people who are stuck on waiting lists and offers them private healthcare and counselling. Engaging with communities throughout the country, they also strive to influence positive attitudes towards mental health. We want this night of food and conversation to be enjoyable for our guests but we also hope it leaves a thoughtful imprint on their minds.
Let’s share a meal and break the silence.

The evening will begin with welcome drinks and a selection of canapés designed by the students. Our wonderful guest chefs will then demonstrate their dishes for our guests. Meanwhile, the students will be working away in our production kitchen to recreate these dishes for the dinner finale in our Four Seasons restaurant. There will be a guest speaker from the charity and finally, we will host a fun auction. Guests will then be farewelled with a gift bag of yummy goodies donated by our kind sponsors.
Let’s share a meal and break the silence.
CHARITY AUCTION /
Local artist Arwen Flowers has kindly donated this wonderful artwork named 'Promises', to be sold at our charity auction. This thoughtful piece represents the promises of support and care, parents, family, and community make to our young people to aid them in transitioning from their teen years into adulthood. 'Promises' will be on display at our event so all potential bidders will have the opportunity to see it up close.
Arwen grew up in Waitakere, West Auckland and after finishing high school completed her Fine Arts Bachelor degree in painting and photography at Elam School of Fine Art. Her flexible, multi-media approach is motivated by a desire to recycle and repurpose second-hand materials. Arwen's motivations to create, revolve around themes of collecting, exploration, navigation, migration, South Pacific—European identity and femininity. Her paintings and collages often reference landscape and oceanic forms, and she uses poetry and a love of music to help develop her ideas. Arwen currently works from her sunroom studio in Helensville.
